Ten Girlguiding Scotland members from Forth Valley celebrated HRH The Queen’s 90th birthday by attending the prestigious Patron’s Lunch on the Mall on June 12.

The group included Lily, 6, of the 1st Carronshore Rainbows; Abi, 10, and Katie, 9 of the 2nd Bonnyridge Brownies; Katy and Katie, both 11, of 1st Carronshore Guides; and Esme, 16 and Jena 17 of Carron Division Senior Section.

They were joined by leaders Fiona Buchanan, Sheila Marshall and Janine Webster, after being selected by ballot to represent Girlguiding Scotland at the unique celebration.

They travelled to London where they met up with 90 other Girlguiding members from around the UK to share the celebration. The day started with a colourful pageant and a tasty picnic lunch followed by speeches and a parade.

The Patron’s Lunch marked the 90th birthday of her Majesty the Queen. Representatives from over 600 charities of which The Queen is patron including Girlguiding enjoyed this very special street party alongside the girls and women from Forth Valley.

Abi said: “Even though it was rainy the day was such an adventure. I loved seeing the Queen and we even got to go on TV.”

Jena said: “We had such a fabulous time at the Patron’s Lunch. The hampers of food and treats were top class, the atmosphere among the crowd was brilliant and the parade was great, especially the 90’s themed section – Spice Girls 4ever.

“It was a real once in a life-time experience and I’m so grateful to have represented Girlguiding Scotland at such a prestigious event.”

Leader Fiona added: “From our youngest rainbow to our oldest senior section member we had such a memorable day, one that we will never forget.

“This was a fantastic opportunity for our girls and young women to be part of, just one of the many open to them as part of Girlguiding Scotland. We want to say a big thank to her Majesty the Queen for her commitment to guiding over the years.”
