CLACKS commuters are being warned about six weeks of delays on the Kincardine Bridge as resurfacing work is carried out.

Essential maintenance to improve the road surface and bridge deck waterproofing on three spans of the A985 Kincardine Bridge will commence from 9pm on Friday, July 1.

The southbound lane will be closed for three weeks, with motorists being regulated by "temporary traffic management".

After three weeks the regulations will be reversed to allow for the second phase of works, this time on the northbound lane.

As before, the restrictions will remain in place for three weeks.

A spokesperson for Amey said: "This work is expected to last for up to six weeks and will be undertaken on a 24 hour basis whenever possible.

"Drivers can expect minimal delays of up to 15 minutes at peak times and are therefore encouraged to plan their journey in advance."

The work will include replacement of the road surface, bridge deck waterproofing and new expansion joints to the Viaduct Span section of the bridge, north of the Swing Span.

The maintenance programme has been planned in consultation with Fife Council, Clackmannanshire Council, Stirling Council, Falkirk Council, Police Scotland and Traffic Scotland.

This scheme with a value of £215,000 will ensure greater journey time reliability, safety and comfort on this route.

Throughout the duration of the works, the pedestrian footways and cycle paths will remain open.
