Man Booker Prize shortlisted author Deborah Levy will read extracts from her acclaimed novel Swimming Home at the University of Stirling on Thursday, November 19.
This free literary event, from 7pm to 8pm in the University’s Logie Lecture Theatre, also includes a question and answer session and opportunity to purchase signed copies of her novel.
Swimming Home explores the devastating effect depression can have on apparently stable, well-turned-out people. Set in a summer villa, the story follows a group of beautiful, flawed tourists in the French Riviera as they come loose at the seams.
The novel was shortlisted for the 2012 Man Booker Prize and was serialised on BBC Radio 4 as a Book at Bedtime. Deborah Levy also writes plays and poetry and her work has been staged by the Royal Shakespeare Company.
This event is part of the Booker Prize Foundation's Universities Initiative, an international scheme encouraging students to read contemporary fiction.
Stirling is home to the Centre for International Publishing and Communication, and offers a postgraduate degree in Creative Writing.
