A SEARCH operation is underway to trace a man seen to enter the River Forth near the Clackmannanshire Bridge in the early hours of this morning.

The bridge was closed to all traffic in both directions at 3.30am as police responded to the incident and emergency service teams are currently in attendance at the scene.

Traffic travelling from the M876 towards Kincardine and West Fife suffered delays this morning due to the bridge closure, with commuters heading towards Alloa diverted via the Kincardine Bridge.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Police Scotland and other emergency services are currently undertaking search activity to trace a man seen to enter the water from the Clackmannanshire Bridge in the early hours of today (Friday 13th November).

"Police and Coastguard helicopters are involved in the search along with colleagues from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

"The Clackmannanshire Bridge is currently closed to traffic in both directions while our inquiry into this matter continues."
