Forth Valley residents are being challenged to get out walking this autumn using a free short walks app.

Anyone who steps up to Ramblers Scotland’s challenge will be in with the chance of winning a two night stay in the Western Isles.

Running until January 31, 2016, the Medal Routes Simple Pleasures challenge aims to get everyone in Scotland building short walks into their daily lives and making walking a habitual part of their daily routines.

Rob Burns, medal routes project officer at Ramblers Scotland, said: "With the new Medal Routes Simple Pleasure challenge and an abundance of wonderful walks on offer on the App, there has never been such a good time to get out and enjoy walking in Scotland.

“There are more than 600 Medal Routes available across the country, each containing bronze, silver and gold levels, so there’s bound to be something to suit everyone. The more you walk, the more you’re entered into our prize draw, so download the free app and step out today.”

There are Medal Routes across the country, from Orkney and Shetland down to Dumfries and Galloway and the Borders. Each short, circular route has a bronze, silver and gold level, offering a 15 minute, 30 minute or hour walk respectively.

To take part, people simply need to download the free Medal Routes app at www.medalroutes.org or via the Apple or Android app stores. Once downloaded, click on the challenge registration button and get started. People can then walk one of the hundreds of routes available on the app or create their own, and every time they log a walk they will be entered into the prize draw.

The winner gets a two night bed and breakfast stay in the Western Isles for two people, staying at the Hotel Hebrides in Tarbert. The hotel boasts a central location and stunning scenery. The prize also includes a ferry pass for one car and two people.
