Road surfacing works on the Kincardine Bridge have been completed a week ahead of schedule.

The essential maintenance was carried out on the A985 to the cost of £350,000.

It included the removal of the existing swing span surfacing and replacement of the bridge deck waterproofing and movement joints and the reinstatement of the road surfacing, which had reached the end of its operational life.

The repairs began on 27 February 2015 and were scheduled to last for six weeks; three weeks southbound and three weeks northbound.

Daytime work on the bridge ended on Friday 20 March, three weeks ahead of schedule, while overnight work to replace the bridge joints and install varioguard was completed on Friday 3 April, eight days ahead of its original estimation.

This maintenance work will ensure the improved reliability of this vital route for the future.

Keith McKune, Operating Company Representative of Amey, said: "We appreciate the patience and co-operation of road users while this essential work is undertaken.

"As well as completing early, we also undertook substantial concrete repairs and remedial works.

"Road maintenance work intended to keep Scotland's important trunk routes operating safely and effectively can lead to disruption, but our intention is always to restore an improved service, as quickly and efficiently as possible." ”
